STAYING HEALTHY AT HIGH ELEVATION

Wolf Creek’s MicroClimate

The Rocky Mountains are notorious for unpredictable and rapidly changing weather. Here are some important tips for you visit.
  • Dress in layers
    • Add or remove as weather changes
    • Cotton is not recommended
  • Waterproof outer layer
  • Don’t forget an extra pair of socks & gloves
  • UV Protection
    • Wolf Creek’s elevation exposes skiers and riders from sea level to nearly 60% more UV rays
    • Snow reflects US rays as well
    • Sunscreen is a MUST – don’t forget to reapply
    • Sunglasses or goggles with UV protection is essential

Altitude

Wolf Creek Ski Area has a base elevation of 10,300 feet with the summit elevation rising to 11,904 feet. Gaining elevation more quickly than your body can adjust may result in altitude sickness due to lack of oxygen. Here are some important altitude sickness tips for you visit.

Normally lifts are open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; however there are periods of time when this schedule does not apply. The public may see lifts opening at 9:00 a.m. early season or during a big storm cycle.
