Wolf Creek's MicroClimate

The Rocky Mountaints are notorious for unpredictable and rapidly changing weather. Here are some important tips for your visit

Clothes

  • Dress in layers
    • Add or remove as weather changes
    • Cotton is not recommended
  • Waterproof outer layer
  • Always bring an extra pair of socks & gloves

UV Protection

  • Wolf Creek’s elevation exposes skiers and riders from sea level to nearly 60% more UV rays
  • Snow reflects UV rays as well
  • Sunscreen is a MUST – don’t forget to reapply
  • Sunglasses or goggles with UV protection is essential

Wolf Creek's Elevation

Wolf Creek Ski Area has a base elevation of 10,300 feet with the summit elevation rising to 11,904 feet.  Gaining elevation more quickly than your body can adjust may result in altitude sickness due to lack of oxygen.  Here are some important altitude sickness tips for your visit.

Mild Symptoms

  • Headache
  • Nausea

  What to do:

  • Rest for your first day at high altitude
  • Drink plenty of water

Severe Symptoms (rare)

  • Confusion
  • Trouble Breathing
  • Blue/Gray lips or fingernails
  • Loss of Motor Skills

  What to do:

  • See ski patrol immediately

Normally lifts are open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; however there are periods of time when this schedule does not apply. The public may see lifts opening at 9:00 a.m. early season or during a big storm cycle.
