Wolf Creek Lodge(See 3 on Base Area map)

The Wolf Creek Lodge (Upper Lodge) is well known for delicious, affordable food.

Enjoy our cafeteria-style restaurant featuring a full gourmet salad bar and a selection of homemade soups, red chili and Santa Fe style green chili. Try the daily special, with a different entrée and side each day plus your choice of dessert, all for one low price. The delicious desserts are a big favorite, freshly baked in our kitchen daily. Ask for our specialty-baked potato, dressed as you wish. Delicious quiches are also prepared daily. From the grill you can order hamburgers, cheeseburgers or specialty burgers such as Wolf Burgers or Ono Burgers (Hawaiian). Hot dogs, chili dogs and bratwurst are available, as well as your favorite made to order deli sandwiches. Coffee, hot cider, hot chocolate and a selection of gourmet teas compliment the winter meal, or perhaps you would prefer a selection of cold drinks. Don’t miss the wide selection of candy bars as you approach the cashier’s stations.

On busy days and weekends “The Outside Grill” is in operation with burgers and brats grilled and served on the sundeck with your choice of cheeses, mushrooms, bacon, pineapple, green chili, or the works! This can be the place for a quick bite between runs. The many picnic tables on the lodge sundeck are nearby.

ATM and courtesy phone are located inside the lodge. Bathrooms are located downstairs (outside).

Otto Mears - San Juans

Otto Mears, Pathfinder of the San Juans

The Pathfinder Bar at Wolf Creek Ski Area is named after Otto Mears, grandfather of Kingsbury Pitcher, current owner of Wolf Creek Ski Area.

Otto Mears was born on May 3, 1840 in Latvia, Russia. Otto enlisted with the California Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War, this eventually brought Otto to Colorado in 1865 after being discharged in New Mexico when the war ended. He then moved to Saguache, Colorado and started a US Mail Route in the San Juan’s, carrying the mail on skis.

He was a stimulus for the settlement and development of the San Juan region through his skills of road building and railroading building. He is most famous for the building of the Rio Grande Southern Railroad, the Silverton Railroad and Silverton Northern Railroad. The Denver Capital building is gilded in gold because he persuaded the Colorado Mining Association to donate 200 ounces of gold for the project, and by 1908, the dome's first gilding was complete. The bar at Wolf Creek Ski Area is named in his honor, so have a toast to Otto on your next ski visit!
