Community Contributions

Wolf Creek Ski Area contributes to the local and regional communities through a number of programs that include substantially reduced lift and lesson tickets, as well as donated time, materials and manpower to others. As a part of Wolf Creek’s commitment to its special use permit through the US Forest Service, Wolf Creek has offered skiing at affordable rates to ensure the public’s recreational use of the Wolf Creek Ski Area in the beautiful San Juan Mountains.

Search and Rescue & Forest Contributions

  • Wolf Creek Ski Area has been one of the largest contributors to the Colorado Outdoor Recreation Search and Rescue since 2012 with over $40,000 donated to the cause
  • Supporting local Search and Rescue organizations is also very import to W.C.S.A. Each fall, Search and Rescue Season Passes have been donated to raise money for the local Search and Rescue divisions.
  • Wolf Creek Ski Area partnered with the National Forest Foundation in 2019-20 to assist in conservation efforts in the Rio Grande and San Juan National Forest to improve and maintain non-motorized hiking and bicycling trails. To date W.C.S.A. has donated over $31,000
  • The Alberta Park Area has over 10km/6mi of complimentary Nordic Trails which Wolf Creek Ski Area grooms regularly

Race & Team Contributions

  • Wolf Creek hosts the Free Fun Race Series each winter with a full schedule of races and prizes at no additional cost to the skiing public 
  • For well over a decade the Special Olympic Ski Team has trained at Wolf Creek Ski Area.  Many of the athletes over the years have won honors at competitions
  • Wolf Creek has hosted the US Freestyle Team five time, most recently in 2018-19.  The team is provided with free lift tickets and on mountain services in the early season
  • Each season Wolf Creek is the preferred mountain for the Wolf Creek Ski Team to train.  In addition to offering a reduced rate season pass to the team and coaches, W.C.S.A also hosts a Challenge Series that features a Super G and Giant Slalom race.  All registration proceeds go to the Wolf Creek Ski Team

Local Community Contributions

  • Wolf Creek Ski Area (WCSA) has donated over $150,000 towards the resurfacing of the Wyndham Tennis Courts.  Working with Wyndham, the Pagosa Springs Tennis Club, a newly established non-profit, assists raising money for local, public tennis courts.  Through this cooperating effort, money for public courts will be generated through tennis clinics, camps, fundraisers and scholarships.
  • Heavy equipment and skilled labor was also donated to the construction of the Pagosa Springs High School Soccer Field.
  • Wolf Creek Ski Area has donated skilled man-hours and use of it’s heavy equipment to the San Juan River Project in Pagosa Springs. Through the duration of the project, Wolf Creek donated over $54,000.  The project made improvements to not only the river for rafters, kayakers and fisherman, but also the Town of Pagosa Springs as the river attracts locals and tourists all summer long.  Wolf Creek also participated in the Animas River Project in Durango.
  • Since 2005, Wolf Creek Ski Area has donated to the Creede School Endowment Foundation.  The foundation provides college scholarship funds to graduating high school students in Creede.  Wolf Creek is located in Mineral County and recognizes the importance of educational opportunities for local students. Over $117,000 have been donated to the foundation.
  • $5,000 was also contributed to the Pagosa Springs Library

Regional Contributions

  • Villa Grove Paragliding
  • Rio Grande Headwaters Land Trust, which promotes sustainable agricultural throughout the San Luis Valley with the use of land and water conservation, receives annual contributions from W.C.S.A. either monetary or complimentary lift tickets for fundraising efforts.
  • Wolf Creek Ski Area has donated over $15,000, as well as food, to La Puente, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides food, shelter and advocacy for the homeless and community member in crisis within the San Luis Valley. 
  • Annual food and beverage contributions are made to the San Luis Valley Food Banks.
  • San Luis Valley Play Park, which features the natural wonders of the San Luis Valley, at Marsh Elementary in Monte Vista, received contributions from Wolf Creek Ski Area.
  • Wolf Creek Ski Area donated a snowcat with implement for grooming operations, as well as skis, boots and poles to the Lake City Ski Hill.
  • Each January, Wolf Creek hosts a United Way Day.  A portion of each lift ticket sold is donated to the United Way Foundation.  Last season (2021-2022) Wolf Creek donated $4,443 to the cause.
  • Wolf Creek Ski Area has donated over $10,000 to the Santa Fe Community Foundation for the Dollars 4 Schools Program and Vidal Gutierrez Golf Fundraiser.
  • Although not regional, Wolf Creek Ski Area donated $4,000 to the ALS Association in 2021-2022.

Programs at Wolf Creek Ski Area that offer ticketing discounts:

  • Skiers and snowboarders who are 80 or older ski free
  • Military discounts (with valid military I.D.) are offered to active duty, reserve, retired and veteran servicemen/women.  Dependents of Active Duty military will also be offered a military discount when presenting valid military I.D. or Department of Defense form 93.
  • Local Appreciation Day - Everyone is invited to take advantage of the substantial discount.  Proof of local residence is not required 
  • College Day - Students who show a valid college photo I.D. and class schedule can purchase a discounted ticket during these days 

 

  • The School Program:
    • Local elementary, middle and high school students are offered a reduced ski and snowboard program inclusive of a lift ticket, lessons and rentals.  Schools who have 20+ students are awarded a 30% scholarship.
  • Family Days:
    • During designated days in February, March and April, parents and siblings of School Program participants can purchase a lift ticket, two-hour morning lesson and ski rental for a minimal $15.00.
  • Pre-Season Pass Sale:
    • Skier and snowboarders can take advantage of this sale and save on a Wolf Creek Season Pass.  Regular rates are 25% more than pre-season prices.
  • Gray Wolves:
    • This local social club offers many activities including skiing at Wolf Creek.  Members who have signed up prior to August 15th of each year are eligible for special pricing on season passes and Gray Wolves Luncheons.

Normally lifts are open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; however there are periods of time when this schedule does not apply. The public may see lifts opening at 9:00 a.m. early season or during a big storm cycle.
